Comparative Analysis of the NHIS Public-Use and Restricted-Use Linked Mortality
ثبت نشده
چکیده
Introduction In 2013, NCHS completed a mortality update for the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) participants for the years 1985 to 2009, with mortality ascertained through December 31, 2011. Due to requirements to protect the confidentiality of the NHIS participants, restricted-use versions of the NHIS Linked Mortality Files were made available only through the NCHS Research Data Center (RDC). To complement the restricted-use files and increase data access, NCHS developed a plan to allow for a public-use release of linked mortality files.

The National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) conducts mortality follow-up for its major population-based surveys. In 2004, NCHS updated the mortality follow-up for the 1986-2000 National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) years, which because of confidentiality protections was made available only through the NCHS Research Data Center. In 2007, NCHS released a public-use version of the NHIS Link...

Introduction The National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) periodically conducts mortality followup studies through record linkage to administrative data sources for its major populationbased surveys (see NCHS Data Linkage Activities), providing a longitudinal component to nationally representative data. These linked mortality files, in general, fill research gaps by creating data resources ...

OBJECTIVE This report describes the linkage between the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) and air monitoring data from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). There have been few linkages of these data sources, partly because of restrictions on releasing geographic detail from NHIS on public-use files in order to protect participant confidentiality. METHODS Pollution exposures f...

The National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) has produced the 1986-2000 National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) Linked Mortality Files by linking eligible adults in the 1986-2000 NHIS cohorts through probabilistic record linkage to the National Death Index to obtain mortality follow-up through December 31, 2002. The resulting files contain more than 120,000 deaths and an average of 9 years ...
